Landscape with Duck on Vimeo

LANDSCAPE WITH DUCK, a hand-drawn animated short by Patrick Neary/Kinografx, wrapped up its festival circuit February 23 at Portland International Film Festival. We were treated to a full house at Portland Art Museum's Whitsell Auditorium, beautiful projection, and some good laughs throughout the film.

This week, the film was posted on Vimeo and has reached over 12,000 views!!  It was posted on a few blogs like Kuriositas, Neatorama, and The Presurfer -- which helped it reach a wider online audience. What a trip to see the title in so many posts on Twitter today.  Thanks for all the positive feedback out there!

We'll be posting the film and more updates online soon at www.kinografx.com, as well as news about our new stop-motion animated film A MARTIAN PICNIC.

Meanwhile, get your ducky gear at our Mad Bird Design Store! New designs for A MARTIAN PICNIC are in the works.

Website Design for Portland Author Jo Barney

Launch Day for a brand-new website is always exciting. I was very pleased for the opportunity to work with talented Portland author Jo Barney on her website, Jo Barney Writes. The website is designed to promote Jo's two new e-books, The Solarium and Graffiti Grandma - now available as e-books on AmazonLuluiTunes/iBook and Nook.

CLIENT FEEDBACK: SAY IT WITH FLOWERS

Jo was very happy with the results of her new website, and even sent a gorgeous bouquet of flowers on launch day! Her Facebook page notes: "I am excited, very excited, to announce that I will have a web page, finished and beautiful. Thanks to Michele Neary, Mad Bird Design, who listens so well and is so patient."

RELATED MARKETING:

In addition to website design, I also updated Jo's Writing Blog to match her new website design, provided personal instruction in how to navigate social networking on Facebook, and developed a logo for Jo's emerging brand.

Animation News: A MARTIAN PICNIC to premiere in Ashland

Exciting developments from Kinografx Animation — new film A MARTIAN PICNIC will premiere at the 11th annual ashland independent film festival!

Ashland Festival Dates: April 12-16, 2012

AIFF is one of the best things you can do in Oregon
- or anywhere - for your movie heart.”
Shawn Levy, The Oregonian

Ashland hosts a fantastic festival, and we are thrilled AIFF has selected Patrick's new animated short film. This will be the premiere of A MARTIAN PICNIC, a stop-motion cartoon that follows the misadventures of a hapless Martian as he competes with a mysterious alien creature for the contents of his picnic. Creative collaborators include Jason Edwards (newkrackle audiblefx) and John Askew (Scenic Burrows), who are creating the film's soundtrack and original score.

The Oregonian's Shawn Levy said the AIFF "offers movie lovers that same sense of being in a magical place ... Southern Oregon doesn't have anything else like it — nor, in fact, do most places on Earth."
This will be our third year of participation in the festival, and we're looking forward to the whole package: Ashland's signature hospitality, outstanding programming, supportive community, and meeting other filmmakers. Read more: what filmmakers are saying about the ashland independent film festival.

Video Production for SSR

Mad Bird Design just wrapped shooting three more videos for repeat client South Sound Radiology in Olympia, Washington. The videos communicate key points of radiology procedures to patients. While we were filming this week, radiologists and staff were talking about the popularity of our earlier series of videos — we are pleased that they are getting good feedback and becoming a useful online tool for learning more about radiology procedures.
